SHAVUOT – IN A NUTSHELL
Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks, is traditionally considered as the day when the Torah was given to Moses and the children of Israel on Mt. Sinai. It comes 50 days (7 weeks) after the celebration of first fruits, immediately after Passover.
This is the same day where, in Acts 2 almost 2,000 years ago, ten days after Yeshua ascended into Heaven, The Holy Spirit was poured out first on the early disciples and eventually will be poured to all flesh, as foretold in Joel 3:1-5 (Joel 2:28-32).
Traditionally we read the Book of Ruth, and we wave two loaves of Bread signifying a Messianic prophetic action fulfilled in Messiah Yeshua - a time of Jews and non-Jews are now one in Messiah. “Your people shall be my people, and Your God will be My God”. (Ruth 1:16-17).
Another Messianic implication is that it is the day when the LORD writes the Torah in our hearts.
(Jeremiah 31:32-33; Ezekiel 36:25-27).
