One prominent Rabbi said: "The Strange thing about the festival of Purim derived from the book of Esther (Megillah Ester) is:-
• The Name of God is not mentioned. Though He works in the background.
• It has unfamiliar Jewish names like Esther, who is married to a non-Jewish King. Esther did not have a family, but only an uncle. Yet Jews are mentioned about 46 times, that is more reference than in any other book in the TANAKH (Hebrew Scripture).
• Beauty parlours were not very Jewish. Nevertheless, Esther undergoes 12-month period of beautification in the Royal Beauty Parlor…"
Now, the story is about King Ahasuerus of Persia, who reigned from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces, appointed Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha to be his prime Minister. Haman conspired to wipe out all the Jews. However, uncle Mordecai the Jew, who was one of the officials at the king’s Palace, learns about the plan and informs his niece; Queen Esther. She proclaims a fast - which results in a victory! Hamman and his company are destroyed and the festival of Purim is installed.
